Use this Order Key to find the Shark of your choice:
1. Does it have an Anal Fin?
If yes, go here. If no, go here.
2. Is the body flattened, raylike, with the mouth at front?
If it is, go to ORDER Squantiformes. If the body isn't raylike and the mouth is underneath, go here.
3. Is the snout elongated and sawlike?
If it is, go to ORDER Pristioformes. If the snout is short and not sawlike, go to ORDER Squaliformes.
4. Does it have five gill slits and two dorsal fins?
If yes go here. If it has six or seven gill slits and one dorsal fin, go to ORDER Hexanchiformes.
5. Are there no fin spines?
If there are no fin spines go here. If there are fin spines, go to ORDER Heterodontiformes.
6. Is the mouth behind the front of the eyes?
If yes, go here. If the mouth is well in front of the eyes, go to ORDER Orectolobiformes.
7. Is there a nictitating eyelid?
If there is, go to ORDER Carchariformes. If there isn't, go to ORDER Lamniformes.
